Dear Parishioner,

In response to a decision of the Provincial Government to limit public gatherings to 250 people, the Archdiocese of Vancouver has asked all parishes to do the same.  As you are welcomed to read for yourself, in our Archbishop’s letter, all local Catholics are dispensed from their “Sunday obligation” but Sunday Mass will continue for now.  Additionally, the following people are strongly encouraged to stay home this weekend:

  1. Those over 65 years of age.
  2. Those who feel remotely unwell or vulnerable to illness.
  3. Those who have been traveling abroad in the last two weeks.

Doors will be closed after 250 people have entered the church.  Those who are turned away and still long to participate in a Mass are invited to find one during the week.

Those who do participate in this Sunday’s celebrations, which include the First Scrutiny for our Catechumens, are advised to avoid physical contact with other church goers, and to receive communion on the hand.  The sign of peace will be omitted, while Eucharist will continue to be offered under one species (no cup will be offered) only.   The holy water fonts at the entrance ways are dry.

Looking ahead, I can also announce that both the Anointing of the Sick (8 a.m.) and the Friends and Family Breakfast, both scheduled for Sunday, March 22 are now canceled.
At a time when distance is a virtue, the best way to stay connected is through flocknote!  Please forward this message to your friends who have not subscribed, and encourage them to sign up!

As this season of lent takes on a renewed meaning, may God grace our world with healing!
