Hospitality (Ushers)

Ushers provide a greeting and a smile when people arrive at Mass and ensure that all are welcome. Key activities include checking that the sound system, lights and fans are on, windows open, candles lit, Offertory gifts ready, gift bearers selected, reserved pews are roped if required, the welcome sheet is ready and locating those who require Communion to be brought to them. Ushers help to seat people, particularly at crowded Masses. They also assure that the Collection(s) and Communion procession are orderly. They assess and assist in medical emergencies, such as request for help or an ambulance. After Mass they distribute bulletins, bag and secure the collection, extinguish candles, tidy pews, close windows and turn off lights. Ushers also assist at special occasions during the year.
