Greetings All,
On an anniversary of tragedy, we return to where we were then. I remember huddling around the television before trotting off to UBC for class. I remember, more painfully but now faintly, the faces of the World Trade Centre’s observatory restaurant staff who had greeted me with a smile a mere 30 days before the towers collapsed. My brother in law was magazine editor in Manhattan; he lost 23 colleagues in the attack.
Past experience shapes who we are now. For St. Joseph the Worker, the past has missionary foundations. Franciscan Sisters and Friars came to accompany Japanese immigrants from the banks of the Fraser to remote internment camps and, in some cases, back again. In this week’s video, I touch on that history, in view of soon launching a pastoral vision for our storied parish.
Fall Fundraisers
There will be no Fall Fair in 2020. Covid-19 prevents our traditional parish fundraiser and community builder. There is a plan in the works, however, that involves telephones, volunteer callers, and the participation of your very own credit card to roll out in early October. Stay tuned for more information!
St. Joseph the Worker School, meanwhile, will have their annual November fundraiser gala as a virtual event. Again, stay tuned for more information!
Mass Registration
Mass Registration is now open until the end of October. All are welcome to register for Sunday or weekday Masses.
Knights of Columbus
This weekend, we celebrate the wonderful contribution our Knights make to St. Joseph the Worker. The leadership of our Council will be present at Saturday’s livestreamed Mass and afterwards installed in their various offices.
Bulletin
And here is this week’s Parish Bulletin!
peace,
